Wallowa Lake Area

Wallowa Lake is located in the Wallowa Mountains in northeastern Oregon. The lake was formed by a series of glaciers 10,000 years ago. The moraine on the east and west side of the lake form the actual lake basin. The moraines are over 900 ft (270 m) above the lake shore. See  Wallowa Lake on Wikipedia.

The lake is 5.5 miles in length and runs north to south. The city of Joseph is located on the north end of the lake. Joseph has a population of 2500 which is supported by Agriculture, Ranching and Tourism. Spending a day in Joseph is a must with its cobbled stone sidewalks and many interesting shops. See Joseph Oregon Web Site.

The south end of the lake is the Wallowa Lake resort community. The Wallowa Lake resort community has a variety of lodging options, restaurants, a marina, Wallowa lake tramway, the Wallowa river trailhead, horse stables and shopping. The collection of businesses at the lake are all part of the Wallowa Lake Tourism group which promotes business at the lake and the surrounding area.

The Wallowa Lake and the surrounding area provide a variety of activities from hiking/fishing the wilderness area to fishing the lakes/rivers of the area. A variety of vendors provide activities at the south end of Wallowa lake which includes miniature golf, horseback riding, an arcade, mini golf, bumper boats or go carts. There is also the world famous Wallowa Lake Tram were you can view the surrounding mountains by walking the mountain top trail. Wallowa Lake is popular for family vacations who make it a yearly tradition.
